Changing the Narrative: Responding to Distress in High-Pressure Professions

Monday 8 September 2025

12.30 – 1.30 pm, online

Jonathan’s Voice and IP Inclusive  are delighted to offer a one-hour online webinar in recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day, with this year’s theme being ‘Changing the Narrative – start the conversation.’ In high-performing, high-pressure environments such as the IP professions, emotional distress often goes unnoticed. Many people experiencing suicidal distress remain silent due to fear of appearing vulnerable, while those around them may feel unsure of how to respond.

This webinar is an opportunity to explore how we can create genuinely compassionate workplaces where people feel safe to speak up, and where colleagues are confident and capable of offering support.

What the webinar will cover

  • Why people experiencing suicidal distress often stay silent – and how attachment and fear of judgement play a role.
  • What distress can look like – and who is most likely to notice it.
  • How to have compassionate, supportive conversations.
  • How to foster psychologically safe environments in the workplace.
  • How to support others – and take care of yourself – if affected

The speakers will be –

Gemma Fieldsend, who is a trainer and consultant specialising in workplace wellbeing and mental health education.

Dr Susie Bennett has focused her research on trying to understand why men are more at risk of suicide and what can be done to help more men access a dignified and meaningful life.
