LawCare is the mental wellbeing charity for the legal community. Jonathan’s Voice shares many of the objectives of LawCare and is pleased to work alongside LawCare when that is appropriate. One of the objectives of Jonathan’s Voice is to focus on early year professionals. A recent report from LawCare indicates that this is a particularly important area of work.
LawCare has reported a “huge leap” in the number of legal professionals seeking help with career concerns. Its contact figures for 2022 show that 22% of people who contacted it for support last year were primarily concerned about their career in the law, compared with just over 8% in 2021. For the first time, the number of people with career concerns equalled the number of legal professionals seeking help because of stress (also 22%). Anxiety accounted for a further 12% of contacts, and depression 8%; 7.5% mentioned lack of supervision as a problem in addition to their main issue. Significantly, it notes that most, though not all, of people getting in touch were at or near the beginning of their careers.
Jonathan’s Voice is pleased to work closely with all early career professionals including the Informals (an association of the unqualified, or part-qualified, student Members of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys) and will continue to do so.
