Taking the Conversation One Step Further
When life becomes too much or you are facing what feels like an insurmountable problem, it can be wonderfully helpful to talk to someone about it. Just being listened to and understood can be healing. Or it can help you feel less alone, see your problems as more manageable and often find your own solutions. Given time and space to voice things out loud can help you gain perspective and often just being allowed to talk is all we need. But if someone opens up to us, how can we respond in a way that will be experienced as truly helpful? We might not feel we have the skills and are worried we might make things worse. Or think we have to provide a solution and make it better in some way. If you missed the excellent IP Inclusive/Jonathan’s Voice webinar on ‘Taking the Conversation Further’ you can watch it here.
You will hear Holly Redman and Simon Keevey Kothari talking about their experiences about what works and what really hasn’t been helpful, followed by an excellent presentation from Barbara Lawton. Thoroughly recommended for learning how to listen to both colleagues at work or our friends and family.
